The “Two-Touch” from the backhand is the preferred type of shot used in situations when you are shooting out of a stickhandle and your first contact after the backhand touch of the stickhandle is the shot. Many times when working on shooting, we find that players do not progress as they should because they lack consistency. While repetitions will help, the consistency in the contact location of the puck is often the problem. It is important to make sure you are good at the “Sitting Duck Puck” version of each shot before moving to the “Two-Touch” version. This is because the “Two-Touch” is essentially a way to get the puck to the optimal location for max power or for creating a more optimal shooting lane around the defender or goalie. If you are struggling with any “Two-Touch” drills, go back and work on the “Sitting Duck Puck” version first, followed by the “Two-Touch” version while aiming to pull the puck to the exact location of the “Sitting Duck Puck” that was giving you success.
