The “Toe Pull” is the preferred type of shot in situations when you are doing a “Catch and Shoot” shot, as well as most shots out of the “glide.” Many times when working on shooting, we find that players do not progress as quickly as they could because they lack consistency. While repetitions will help, the consistency in the contact location of the puck is often the problem. It is important to make sure you are good at the “Sitting Duck Puck” version of each shot before moving to the “Toe Pull,” as the latter is essentially a way to get the puck to the optimal location either for max power, or for creating a more optimal shooting lane around the defender or goalie. If you are struggling with any “Toe Pull” drill, you should go back and work on the “Sitting Duck Puck” version first, followed by the “Toe Pull” version, while aiming to pull the puck to the exact location of the “Sitting Duck Puck” that was giving you success.
