The “Sitting Duck Puck” is the easiest way to find out someone’s optimal puck location for their shot. Many times when working on shooting, we find that players do not progress as quickly as they could because they lack consistency. While repetitions will help, the consistency in the contact location of the puck is often the problem. The “Sitting Duck Puck” addresses this problem as, once you find out where to place the puck, you can control it on each subsequent repetition and watch your shot take off from there! The “Sitting Duck Puck” involves leaving the puck in one place like a “sitting duck,” and then snapping it with your first contact, without pulling in off the toe, or handling it over with your backhand. The “Sitting Duck Puck” is the first technique you should master before moving to either the “Toe Pull” or “Two-Touch” variations, which are essentially ways to get the puck to the optimal location.
