“Crossovers and Stickhandling” in rhythm is such an important skill, as it is the foundation for many shots, passes, and dekes that we see in today’s game. Being that crossovers are the number one way to change direction at full speed, it is obvious how crucial it is not only to be able to handle the puck while doing them, but also in a way that gives you so many options. Be sure to get your hands out in front and away from your body when working on this technique, and also be sure to get your head up and look around. We are often teaching players that having your eyes up and seeing who is coming at you is important, but having your head up and actually directing the other team in the direction you want, is as important as anything when being deceptive. Be sure to truly master this skill, before moving on to some of the harder combinations, as even some high level players struggle with them, if their foundation here is not super solid.
