Of the 3 main techniques used by high level players to carry the puck in full stride (straight line stride), the “One Hand Stride” technique is going to be the fastest. This is because you are really not handling the puck at all, but rather, you are simply pushing it foward. In addition to this, you can use your arms to swing naturally helping generate speed, rather than having them focusing on stickhandling the puck. It is going to be important to keep the toe of your blade facing the side boards, which allows your blade to push the puck directly forwards, and therefore preventing it from moving in to a position where you have to re-adjust, and possibly slow down your speed. While this technique is the fastest, the flip side is that it also is the one where you have the least amount of control to make a play, such as making a pass, deke, or shot. Therefore it is important to utilize this technique when you have a lot of open ice, and won’t come in contact with a defender too quickly, and want to simply move as fast as possible.
