The “Scoop Pass” is to passing as the “Catch and Shoot” is to shooting. With the “Scoop Pass,” you want to cradle the puck softly, but only for a very short amount of time before it comes off the stick. When compared to the “Load and Shift Pass,” the “Scoop Pass” is much quicker, but is often less powerful for younger players. Compared to the “One-Touch Pass,” the advantage of the “Scoop Pass” is that it generally allows for more control. However, the disadvantage is that it is slower. The “Scoop Pass” is often used when a player wants to get rid of the puck quickly, but also has some time and isn’t rushed, such as in an outlet pass to a winger after receiving a D-to-D pass, or setting up a teammate for a one-timer in the Offensive Zone.
