“Lateral Crossovers” are crossovers that help us to turn aggressively while we are crossing over. They are typically the first crossovers taught and are used when you crossover to gain speed around the back of the net on a full lap, or when doing the classic circles drill. This is different from “Linear Crossovers,” whereby you are travelling in a straighter line while crossing over. “Lateral Crossovers” are essential in puck protection situations when you are cutting in hard, or in situations where you want to attack or cut on an aggressive arc. To maximize the effectiveness of “Lateral Crossovers,” remember to lean your bodyweight inwards and focus your pushes laterally, while keeping your blades on the ice as long as possible.
